Club Monthly Challenges
Monthly challenges

The Club conducts photography challenges for its members on a set topic each month. An external judge is usually invited to assess and write comments on each entry.

The challenge has two classes, General (for newer and inexperienced photographers) and Advanced (for more experienced photographers). Members may enter either DPIs (Digitally Projected Images); up to two entries in each section.
Monthly Challenge Guidelines for 2024
The Club Management Committee will determine to which level, either General or Advanced, a member is best suited; based on images presented.
A GENERAL Photographer may only enter the General, Creative and My Favourite Photo categories.
An ADVANCED Photographer may only enter the Advanced, Creative and My Favourite Photo categories.
General - DPIs (Digital Projected Images)

DPIs - Dimension size 1920 (max width) x 1080 (max height)
Maximum 1.5mb file size (quality size) JPEG format.

Extensive enhancement editing is permitted but the integrity of the original image must be maintained and not compromised. High Dynamic Range (HDR) images are allowed in these sections.
Advanced - DPIs

DPIs - Dimension size 1920 (max width) x 1080 (max height)
Maximum 1.5mb file size (quality size) JPEG format.

Extensive enhancement editing is permitted but the integrity of the original image must be maintained and not compromised. High Dynamic Range (HDR) images are allowed in these sections.
Creative - DPIs (judged as 1 Category only)

STATEMENT of understanding – Creative images demonstrate "Altered Reality."

The image may display a change in natural colour, form, shape, or any combination of these three. Creative images are often montages (a blending or composite of multiple images).

High Dynamic Range (HDR) images without further changes are not considered "altered reality."

All images and any components forming the final entry, must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else.

Original images must be altered by the maker; artwork or computer graphics generated by the entrant may be incorporated, if the original photographic content predominates.

Any subject matter is acceptable as long as the Altered Reality guidelines are followed.

The categories above shall be judged and critiqued each month.
Open Category (DPI only)
This category forms part of the monthly challenge and images can be on any subject.
At monthly meetings, entries will regularly be made available for viewing and member comment.

They may be digitally enhanced or as shot from the camera. It would be appreciated if they were submitted at the same time as other DPI entries and to the Print Steward at shutterbugs35mm@gmail.com

Entry limits
A maximum of 2 photos in EACH SECTION per monthly challenge - up to a total of eight. For example: 2 prints (if required), plus 2 DPIs, plus 2 Creative entries, plus 2 Favourite Photos entries.

(Please note: Not all challenges will require a print entry. When this occurs, members can enter up to 3 DPIs and 2 Creative images.)

Deadline for monthly entries is the meeting night prior to the challenge date, to allow one month for consideration by the appointed Judge.
Print entries should be handed to the print steward at the meeting.

DPI entries can be submitted via USB sticks at the meeting or emailed before deadline to Colin Nicholas at shutterbugs35mm@gmail.com

ALL entries will be considered as candidates for possible selection in any Interclub competition and so members are requested to keep a raw file/original file of all entries submitted throughout the year.
